Fiona Shaw Cast as a Witch in True Blood

Fiona Shaw plays the Aunt of a wizard in the Harry Potter franchise but now she will be playing a character with magical powers herself in true Blood season four. Deadline just announced that she has been cast in the role of Marnie/Hallow.

On True Blood, she will play Marnie, a mousy, timid and secretly self loathing storefront medium and palm reader who is taken over by the spirit of a powerful witch. The character was originally envisioned younger but is being adjusted for Shaw.

I think this casting is decision is fabulous! I think choosing an older and more experienced actress is really going to bring this role to life. In the book “Dead to the World,” Hallow curses Eric Northman when we refuses her sexual advances and refuses to pay up in a protection scheme. He loses his memory and Hallow and her associates wreak havoc in Bon Temps and Shreveport in an attempt to find him.

Who knows if Alan Ball will stick with that storyline but I hope they do and choosing an older actress is brilliant in my mind. I was worried they would pick some young, fresh from the farm actress, for the part and it would have no depth. No worries now! I can’t wait to see Hallow and Eric spar!
